Tabakas ziņā smēķētāji pagājušā ziemā un pavasarī pārdzīvoja lielu trūkumu, jo ar lielinieku ienākšanu to vairs pirkt nekur nedabūja, tā ka tie, kuri bez smēķēšanas nevar iztikt, ķērās pie dažādiem surogātiem: smēķēja āboliņa ziedus, koku lapas, vērmeles u.c. Lai arī uz priekšu nebūtu jāpiedzīvo tabakas trūkums, tad šo pavasar ļoti daudz sadēstīja tabaku. Nebūs nevienas mājas, kur šis stāds nebūtu dēstīts.
